Lamp Source Project Solutions partnered with the M&E Consultancy to provide an energy-efficient lighting and controls solution as part of the refurbishment of Corkey House, a residential care home in Belfast managed by Choice Housing.
The Project Challenge
The M&E Consultants required a lighting solution that would improve energy performance and introduce intelligent control across the communal areas of an existing care home.
As the project was a refurbishment, installing traditional control cabling throughout the building was not a practical option due to the disruption and additional installation complexity this would have created.
The brief required a solution that could deliver the functionality of a professional lighting control system while remaining suitable for an existing building environment.
The Solution
Working with their UK lighting manufacturer partners, Lamp Source Project Solutions proposed a combination of high-performance luminaires and the HubSense wireless lighting control system from Inventronics.
Using Bluetooth mesh technology, HubSense enabled a fully networked lighting control solution without the need for dedicated control wiring. This reduced installation complexity while still allowing the consultant and project team to achieve the control functionality expected from a modern lighting management system.
Controls Strategy
The HubSense system allowed control strategies to be tailored to the needs of each space. Features included presence and absence detection, zone linking, scheduling, scene control and preset lighting levels. The system is programmed through an app and can be configured remotely, simplifying future adjustments and ongoing support.
A key part of the strategy was balancing energy efficiency with occupant wellbeing, while still supporting safe movement for staff and residents.
